Teacher Academy Project – Democratic Citizenship Education (TAP-DCE)

Co-Developing Democratic School Cultures and Participatory Teacher Professional Learning

TAP-DCE will position democratic values and educational practices at the centre of teacher learning across the career-span, in alignment with the e EU Union of Skills initiative and the Action Plan for Basic Skills. The project responds to the Call for deeper and more actionable skills needed to thrive in a competitive and confident Europe – and particularly Citizenship skills for fostering active participation in democratic societies. TAP-DCE will co-design, pilot, validate and systemically anchor 6 modules of innovative learning and teaching resources for teacher education and teacher-learning in schools within a framework based on the this call and on leading-edge engagement with competences for democratic culture (CDC) and democratic cultures competences (DCC) and the connections with cross-cutting European education Area themes: critical digital literacy and media education; STEAM / iSTEM; ecological entrepreneurship education; and Diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. TAP-DCE materials and supporting pedagogies will be co-developed by the partners working with pre- and in-service teachers and teacher educators through online, hybrid and face-to-face events, as part of local and European Professional Learning Communities. These will be informed by cutting edge international scientific insights, and local praxis examples and innovations. In addition TAP-DCE will develop a module for teacher educators and a brief for policy makers. In sum: TAP-DCE academy will co-design, pilot and validate approaches to teacher professional learning for democratic cultures including specific resources for teacher educators and policy makers.
